Interactive Notebooks

The science department uses student interactive notebooks which are organized and structured based on an Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) model. AVID is a college preparatory program that prepares students to attend a four-year college upon high school graduation. There are many different AVID strategies to help students retain information. One of those strategies is the use of an interactive notebook (INB). Besides the organization structure of the interactive notebooks, color and illustration is part of the AVID strategy (see "What's With All the Coloring").

We preform bimonthly notebook checks which account for 40% of students' grades. The following are some of the page formats we use. See "What's With All The Coloring" for student exemplars.
